Snippet name: EtoBlog
Author: hugelmopf
Version: 0.1 (Beta)

[important=Better blog available!]
Please note, that Ralph has posted a much nicer blog (maybe even a bit inspired by etoBlog) here: http://www.etomite.c...?showtopic=4008
Please use that one, as etoBlog will not really be maintained very actively.

[/important]

With this blog/news snippet you don't have to create a new document for each blog entry, so your document tree will not become huge over the time. It uses a separate table in Etomite's MySQL database to store its entries.

[important=Features:]
  • Inline Editing with WYSIWYG editor "Xinha"
  • One separate blog on each page possible
  • Access rights according to Etomite's access rights for each page
  • German translation included
[/important]

[important=Installation instructions:]None. Just copy the snippet to your snippets and call it with [[EtoBlog]] on each page.
You need Etomite 0.6.1 to use this snippet, but 0.6.1-RC2 has a problem with access permissions. See this thread for the fix: http://www.etomite.c...?showtopic=3150[/important]

Have a look at it on the demo site: http://hugelmopf.hu.ohost.de/etomite/index.php
(you can also log into the manager and then come back to test the admin stuff for EtoBlog)

I checked your demo and it looks nice... I had a similar idea on my ToDo list... Looks like you've got it covered... I'll check it out in-depth later...

It looks good, but I can't enter text because the editor is far to small, can't even see one line (IE, FF, Maxton) Same with Events BTW

There should be a box in the top left of the editor tool bar which will maximise the Xinha editor window.

... the Xinha editor window ...

Ah, that explains why I couldn't see the edit window at all.
Xinha does not function at all here, 'cos its incompatible with my firewall set up.

response on the xinha forum can be summed up as 'common problem, try another firewall'.

I'm sorry for not replying earlier. Either I didn't get a notification email or I accidently deleted it. Thanks for all your friendly comments.

I was not aware of this problem, as for some reason it does not happen for me with Firefox on Linux. But I can see the reason for it and hope to have it fixed on the Demo site. Can anybody confirm this? Then I would update the snippet code.

Yes, I am using the default Xinha editor. If that doesn't work, you should just see a plain textarea for the input?

I'm having problems with this snippet.

It's running fine in that it's created a database and I can see Xinha and that all seems to work, but I can't add an entry and it gives me the Xinha display even if I'm logged out.

I've updated config.inc.php file because I'm sucessfully using EtoGal, so what am I doing wrong?

The URL of the EtoBlog page is http://ccgi.danbex.force9.co.uk/index.php?id=49

TIA

I'm already waiting for the vesrion of Etoblog to go with RC3, for the possibility of giving some of the centre staff access to a blog without scaring them off with the first screen of the manager page!
The problem I have with Xinha in RC2 though is an incomaptibility with the specific firewall I use ... so i hope one of your beta testers uses the full version of Kerio Personal Firewall! It will be interesting to look at the editors in RC3 (maybe TinyMCE actually understands fieldsets this time, for example), but if the package gets any bigger I'm going to have to prune it before installing (I only have a limited amount of space for the lowermosswood site)

Are you sure you see Xinha without being logged in? Because I don't see it on the site you posted.
If you add an entry (type text in the Xinha-box and hit "Add entry"), what does it do? Does it return normally to the original screen, but the new entry is not there?

Very strange. I came back to this after the weekend away, and even logged in I couldn't get the snippet to work. I edited the page to fix a broken image and it started working :?:

Anyway, if you look at the attachment I've grabbed what I'm seeing, and this is what I get logged in or out.

If I enter something and click 'Add Entry' it just comes back to this and adds nothing at all.

I am wondering whether your browser is the problem... which one are you using?
Does the demo site ( http://hugelmopf.ohost.de/etomite/index.php ) work for you?
Besides that: your screenshot looks weird... where is the title-field? I attached one of my demo site in Firefox 1.0.6.

EDIT: I just looked at the site itself and saw, that the background of the "legend" is white, and that's why the title field doesn't show up. So nevermind that point. And I also noticed, that it is not a browser problem, because I also see the entry field. Can you post something about your (server) environment?

Erm.. Not sure about the background colour thing - can you explain please?

What do you need to know about the environment? Sorry for being a bit stupid here. :(

With your CSS-file you probably set the background for the <legend> field to white, that's why, at first, I didn't see the title-input field. But that has nothing to do with the other problem.

I am not even sure, what problem the environment could have.
I just read in Ralph's announcement that he took EtoBlog and improved it with a lot of stuff, so I guess it might be a good idea, to use (or wait for?) his release, since I am not going to further code on EtoBlog, if the master himself is providing something like it! ;-)

Strange. The CSS file has nothing in it at all about the legend tag

Ah well, looks like a wait until Ralph releases Blogger (is it Blogger Ralph? :) )

My stupidity this week is over. I'd got this page set as cacheable. It's working now.
