I have posted on my website a template called "Pager" (it looks like a big pager/beeper). There is a direct download for the zip file that contains everything you need to use it as a template. I also provided a file called pager_xcf.zip which includes the original artwork with layers for GIMP. There is a tutorial on how to customize the GIMP .xcf file, how to use XHTML to create a "tableless" template, and a tutorial on using CSS to replace tables as a layout element. I have attached a screenshot, and you can view the tutorial here:

I have been using [DO NOT CIRCUMVENT THE WORD FILTER] for a while now, but Etomite is the Great father of [DO NOT CIRCUMVENT THE WORD FILTER], and the etomite community has been so cool, and so helpful, I wanted you all to have access to this as well.

Scotty this looks great. I don't kow if I like the stretching of the text, I may have even put in a column on the side which might then defeat the purpose of the pager effect, but I do love the shell of it. It's slick!

Well, being opensource, you should feel free to use it or change it however you see fit. A litte mix of absolute and relative positioning in CSS, and you should be able to easily pull off a side column.

As far as "stretching of text", I am not sure what you mean. Are you referring to the { text-align:justify; }?

Yeah, just the fact that the text runs so wide across. I guess I tend to prefer shorter lines to read. But I'm glad that you made flexible so that it could be adjusted.

Absolutely. Add a <div id="subnav"></div> to the HTML, and you could have a vertical menu on the left and the content shortened up a bit just to the right of that, sharing that expanse of a space with a few lines of CSS!
