G'day,

I've been going through the process of rolling out mySQLdumper (see http://www.mysqldumper.de/en/) onto some of the Etomite based web sites I have hosted with JaguarPC.

mySQLdumper is a set of PHP and Perl scripts that enable you to setup and manage backups of one or more MySQL databases. The resulting backup files can be stored on your file server, emailed to a nominated email address and/or sent via FTP to another server.

Best of all, you can setup a cron job to have mySQLdumper do this automatically, as frequently as you schedule it to do so.

I had many problems getting mySQLdumper to work, mostly because of my lack of knowledge of Linux. I even discovered a bug in mySQLdumper along the way. But with the help of the mySQLdumper team, the JaguarPC support team and many others, I now have it working just great.

I have prepared a detailed Step-by-Step Guide on how to Setup mySQLdumper on a JaguarPC Server. See http://www.jaguarpc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14590.

If you want to use mySQLdumper to backup your Etomite databases, this guide should be easy to follow and adapt for use on your web host account.

Best Regards, Lloyd Borrett.

The link to the step by step guide above is not working, but it's OK, I see you have an installation guide in the download file. Ta.

Guy's,

I use Site Vault it's the only backup program i can find that's easy to use for both mySQL backups and FTP backup at the same time in the same product that will also schedule the download...

All my client sites that are backed up with this, 18 with mySQL DB's and 25 just FTP backup, to a NAS device in the office, also the restore process is a treat to use... Just creat your Mysql database first on your new host or after a catastrophy, and set it going, depending on the size of your site your're up and running in no time. very very easy. okay it's $99 but you can't put a price on loosing everything, also i haven't found a product that restores so easily for the none techie... :) i've been running it now for 4 months without a glitch...!

Regards,
Chris.

Great site and looks like a great product. Thanks for the reccomendation. Unfortunately it needs a .net environment and so a microsoft server. (I think that is right at least, I am not a hardware person at all.)

If you have a suggestion for my unix servers I would be very interested. I have just done my very first backup (can you believe that!) of my site with the wonderful phpmyadmin. But I have several sites I should backup regularly and site vault has tempted me. (If it is as easy as it says it is of course. I never touch servers, I would only break them if I did.)

Paul,

You don't need to install it on your webserver, it's a windows product yes, you don't need to run it a Windows server OS either, it will run on an XP Pro box (like mine...) and it runs in your office and not where your web server is situated...

I would try the Free trial, nothing to loose, I guarantee you'll love it's ease of use... i've tried loads of backup programs in the past with varying results, this one is best in my opinion particularly the restore process. A number of my clients have it and love it... just set it and forget it...

Chris.

Thanks for that chris.

I must have assumed it was web based and only skim read it

I shall give the free trial a go as you suggest.

Best wishes,

Paul
