I've been going through the process of rolling out mySQLdumper (see http://www.mysqldumper.de/en/) onto some of the Etomite based web sites I have hosted with JaguarPC.
mySQLdumper is a set of PHP and Perl scripts that enable you to setup and manage backups of one or more MySQL databases. The resulting backup files can be stored on your file server, emailed to a nominated email address and/or sent via FTP to another server.
Best of all, you can setup a cron job to have mySQLdumper do this automatically, as frequently as you schedule it to do so.
I had many problems getting mySQLdumper to work, mostly because of my lack of knowledge of Linux. I even discovered a bug in mySQLdumper along the way. But with the help of the mySQLdumper team, the JaguarPC support team and many others, I now have it working just great.
I have prepared a detailed Step-by-Step Guide on how to Setup mySQLdumper on a JaguarPC Server. See http://www.jaguarpc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14590.
If you want to use mySQLdumper to backup your Etomite databases, this guide should be easy to follow and adapt for use on your web host account.
Best Regards, Lloyd Borrett.
