Hi all,

My apologies if this has been answered many times but I can't find any reference to this particular problem in the forum

I have just installed Etomite 0.6.1 (Prelude) on a shared hosting apache server, but I am having difficulty in getting images to appear in my documents, as follows:

I use Manage Files to upload an image file, and the file appears in my assets/images folder with no problem.

I Edit the page to which I want to add my image and click the Insert/Edit Image icon. (I'm using TinyMCE).

When the popup window appears, clicking the 'Browse icon does nothing except display a javascript 'open window' command on the status line. Clicking the Appearance and Advanced tabs has a similar effect.

If I actually type '../assets/images/<nameofjpegfile.jpg> in the Image URL box, the image appears OK, and it also appears in my document when I click Insert. It also appears if I click the TinyMCE 'Preview' icon.

However, when I save the document, the image does not appear, although the image description I entered does.

I'd be very grateful for some help with this or a pointer to the right place ...

Thanks in advance,

Bob Yorke

Well, BobTheBuilder, it has indeed been covered... The problem was due to a cleanup script that I ran on the entire code base which was supposed to only remove some annoying ^M charatrers... The routine ended up removing some critical M characters that shouldn't have been touched... Patched files are available... Just try some better searches and you chould be able to find the correct thread... B)

Thanks for the reply Ralph. I did search the entire forum a number of times without success before posting. I'm really not a lazy type (maybe dumb though ...)

I'm assuming that this is now the correct forum to search, since my post was moved here. So far I've searched for 'TinyMCE tabs', 'TinyMCE browse', 'cleanup script', '^m characters', etc., etc., but the only previous posts that come up are this one ...

I am trying, but I'm not sure what else to search for. Would any kind soul put me out of my misery and point me in the right direction? Please? :(

A quick and simple site search for the word Advanced, based on text in your original post, yielded a short list which included this thread which has a patched file attached to my last post... As a general rule you will have better luck in searches if you use part of the error message or something of similar context... I was grasping at straws when I chose to use Advanced, but it worked...

OK, thanks Ralph - lesson learned! :D

I now have both tabs working, which is great, but the browse button still doesn't work. and my images don't show up in my published documents. I'm doing some more searching now ...

Unless I'm mistaken TinyMCE doesn't come with a built-in image browser... But all of the Etomite WYSIWYG editors have iBrowser integration which fills the void...

If you click the TinyMCE Insert/Edit image icon (on the toolbar), you get a popup window with the three tabs (General, Appearance, Advance). To the right of the Image URL text box on the General tab is an icon which says 'Browse' if you hover the mouse over it. Presumably it is intended to let you browse any assets/images that you have already uploaded using the File Manager, and pick the one you want. It does nothing on my system except bring up a javascript message on the window's status bar.

I have also tried clicking the iBrowser icon, but I get a chunk of PHP error messages and a non-functional iBrowser window.

At the end of the day, I can work round the editor issues and can insert an already uploaded image by typing in the URL in the text box. The main problem remains that when I save my document, I can see the image description text, and a nice space where the image should be, but no image ...

I've spent most of yesterday, and all day today trying to resolve this problem, as it is the only thing stopping me from using Etomite. I've hunted and hunted for a solution, and read about all sorts of fixes that might or might not apply, but I'm pretty much stumped now.

Check your Etomite conbfiguration > Interface & editor settings > Strip base url setting to see whether changing it makes any difference... You can also try changing your Etomite conbfiguration > Miscellaneous settings > Rewrite image paths setting as well... You will most likely need to edit a document before any changes will go into effect, however... Unfortunately, WYSIWYG integration issues are not at the top of my priority list at the moment... In fact, I just got a plea for help from a customer while typing this reply and have to run out to tend to their needs...

OK, now I'm getting somewhere! I had tried those settings before, but I can't have tried them in the right combination, or the right order, or something ...

I still don't have the TinyMCE Editor browse button working, but I do have images in my documents, and I'm working on everything else.

Thanks for your help, Ralph -- much appreciated :)

Same here I'm afraid. Browse button doesn't do a thing, no matter what I try. I did notice that there are "openBrowser" and "openBowser" references here and there, but I'm too JS-illiterate to find out if that even has got anything to do with it.

Hi Ralph,

Ok! Thank you for taking the time to post this information. People like BobtheBuilder and myself would have had no other way of knowing that there were buttons in the software that were not meant to work, so I appreciate it.

By the way, for some reason, your post there appears in a massively large typeface - not sure what that's about.

The large typeface was intentional... We moderators sometimes get tired of doing all the leg work and it gets to us once in a while... I have discovered that the browse button was inadvertently left in the supplied example code that was used for the integration of TinyMCE into Etomite and have made changes to the code base so that the button will no longer be displayed and causing undue confusion... Yet another chunk of my day spent on non-income generating work...

For anyone who wishes to make the change to their code base prior to the next release, here is how it can be done... Edit your manager/actions/dynamic/mutate_content.dynamic.action.php file and change the line:

file_browser_callback : "mcFileManager.filebrowserCallBack",
to read

//file_browser_callback : "mcFileManager.filebrowserCallBack",
or remove it completely... This will eliminate the bogus browse button... :eto:

I see. Then maybe this one can express my frustration. :D

I had no idea that the support situation for Etomite was in this kind of state. It certainly isn't my fault, but for what it's worth, I'm sorry for you and for everyone else here. Going forward, I will do my best to post not at all, but when I do, I will double and triple my efforts to not incur admonitions, hostility and threats.

I hope that the rest of your day/evening goes better.

Patty
