Mike, what would it take to make EtoGal support SWF uploads and google video/youtube embeds?

It depends somewhat on what you mean by 'support' - ie what would you want it to do, but also would you want only a single type of file in a gallery or a mixture.
In practice though its probably a fairly major change:
the admin sections would need changing to handle the different things you'd want to store in the database, and in the filesystem. Much of whats already there wouldn't apply (resizing the image and creating thumbnails for instance either aren't releveant or need completely replacing). Similarly almost all the display code would need rewriting too (probably a lesser task, but maybe not)
It may be better to just take the ideas and write fresh code.
If you wanted to use the other snippets in the suite, they'd need a rewrite to, to provide an appropriate set of keywords, and the sample styles would probably be of little use.
