Hello everyone -- I have Etomite installed on web server for a few months now. A couple of days ago I started getting permission denied fopen error whenever I try to make a change, add a new page whatever. The error tells me that /assets/cache/etomiteCache.idx.php is not writable. I read threw the forum here and found out it must be 777, so I tried and the best I can do is get the permission set to 755. I contacted the host and they say since the servers they use are suexec servers 777 is not allowed and .htaccess is not allowed, however I can put my own php.ini in my public_html folder.
So my question is how do you get Etomite running properly under a suexec server?? Any suggestions would be helpful, and I understand changing hosts is an option but right now I can not do that. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Thank you -- Todd

Sounds like you got stung by an unannounced server upgrade by your host... True, some hosts don't allow chmod 0777 due to tightened security... You can try either chmod 0644 or chmod 0664 instead... The exact setting can vary from server to server... 0644 usually works...

Thanks Ralph for your response, unfortunately I tried these with no luck. I believe it might have to do with the owner of the file. Any other suggestions would be helpful

It is up to your host to get things working... Your site was working until they did upgrades, meaning that they broke it - so they need to fix it... We have been seeing this a lot recently with hosts upgrading to PHP 5 without realizing the differences in default settings... Not being able to have an .htaccess file is absurd... It might be worthwhile to look for alternative hosting if they are going to box you into a corner...
