hope you made a backup admin user... :betterwink:
otherwise your going to have to go into your database to free it up.

three failed logins causes that and locks the user out for good.
might want to make your username something that no one would ever be able to guess... otherwise people can lock you out.

Alex talks about this way back in the day... I think they were going to work on a ip block for the newer versions of etomite... but I don't know what ever came of that.

might try searching this forum for the old thread... as I believe Alex gives some steps on fixing it in the database.

change the blocked section within phpMyAdmin (if you have it on your host) in the user section (i believe) from 1 to 0

that should un-block it ;)

thanks for getting back to me - luckily enough, I had created another admin user before so I could get easily access to etomite again.

Wouldn't it have been easier to simply edit the record in question using phpMyAdmin than to go to the great lengths that you are describing...:?: I don't recommend that ANYONE use the method described unless they have an in-depth understanding of MySQL... :!!: Using phpMyAdmin you could simply unblock a user by changing the blocked and blockeduntil fields to zero... B) myispnet, please edit your post to eliminate this dangerous suggestion altogether... <_<

Ok I think you might be right, after i posted this...i tried to get back into my site, after I thought I fixed things, it let me login, but right after it started coming back with all sorts of script error popups...concerning the index.php file in manager.
I tried installing right over the old one...hoping that would fix things but it wouldn't work. So I decide to delete the whole DB create a new one using a new name, and install the whole thing again. now it works fine, and this time i created another admin user (just in case).

NOW what I want to know, is this:

everyone keeps telling me what you did above, but they won't tell you the step-by-step instructs to do it. and this is why I thought I would try to find a way myself.

so will you PLEASE tell me HOW to do what you suggest..."exactly"???

cause I can't find where you're talking about, or what you do...

I will delete my other post

I am having a strange problem with Etomite 1.1 and Mysql 5.051a :

I had forgotten the admin password on a site I had not managed for a long time.

Went to command line on Mysql (i do not use the graphical managers) and did the following, which has worked before:

mysql> UPDATE site_manager_user SET password=MD5('newpassword') WHERE id=1;

Before this has worked, but now the site still complains about wrong password.

Any ideas appreciated!

Yes, that is the table indeed.

Any idea what is causing this problem: That is the table where the password is stored and as far as I see the command given is ok.
Worked before.

Ok, for some reason it only took several hours to take effect.
So the password is changed and I can login....
