File Name: userEditDetails
File Submitter: Jelmer
File Submitted: 25 Jan 2008
File Category: Security

Allows a logged-in user to edit his/her details.

Reupload my working copy since the originals seem to be lost. Files might suffer from a small overload of Dutch translation.

PLEASE NOTE: this isn't a copy/paste/action snippet, you manually have to create an extra table in your MySQL database to hold the extra data you want to store.

Jelmer, thanks for such a great snippet. This appears exactly what I am looking for on a client's site that needs to manually sign people up, but would like site users to be able to modify their details, including their password, especially after retrieving a new one.

However, I was hoping that you may provide two things:
    • A very brief how-to install and use the snippet
    • A translation into English of snippet's variables

For 1. I assume that I must add the snippet into my resources and call it on any one page. I also assume that any user must be logged in before s/he can update his/her user details. IS this correct? Also, what is the process like? Once a user modifies his/her details, does the administrator gets an e-mail notification? Again, I believe that furhter description of the mechanics may entice more people like myself to download and use the snippet.

For 2., well, my dutch is unfortunately non-existent and I need to update the subject of the e-mails and other variables. English is not even my first language, but most people can get by with it.

I hope this helps. Thanks again.

Can anyone give me some pointers on making field mandatory (AKA, display a message if someone clears a field and tries to save their profile)?
I know it's not idiot-proof, because people could replace values with garbage, but the client is insisting.

Edit: figured it out. Once I have verification that it's working as the client wants, I'll share.
