Hello,

Just wondering - if etomite doesn't use meta tag keywords (even with metatagsextra implemented), where do search engines read the keywords from??

Thanks!

Mike

This has been discussed somewhere here relatively recently. As a general rule, search engines don't read the keyword meta tags any more, since they were greatly abused. (There's an exception - google is reputed to read the tag, and penalise you if it doesn't think it suits the page.) It seems the tag no longer serves any useful purpose.

Search engines work out from page content what the page is about.

Etomite can use keywords, if you set it up to use them.

There are two snippets included in the standard code base that make use of document keywords... MetaTagsExtra and GetKeywords are the two snippets...

so if google etc doesn't use keywords and just reads the content - why does etomite have a keyword function??

What is its purpose? if some search engines do use it, where do they read the list from?

Thanks guys!

Etomite has it because 1) why delete it when you can just simply not use it, and 2) some SEO theories still make use of it to some degree. If you do use it, just make sure your selected keywords are specific and relevant for each page.

There are also other snippets that use keywords like the RSS FEED and some search snippets...
