I had a browse through the bug tracker tonight and was pleasantly surprised by Ralphs, progress in ticking off the bugs that have been submitted.

I just wanted to publically thank you Ralph for the hard yards you have been tirelessly putting in to this code base so that we can all benefit.

Etomite was already awsome and with the changes you are describing... It will be a fantastic "first release". I can't wait! (but I will)...

By the way, is it open for discussion RE the snippets that are included in the sql dump for the installation? I know it is not a bug tracker issue and not really high priority, but perhaps some discussion should be had on which to update, remove and include? Eg would love to see "authenticate_visitor" in there somewhere...

Thanks, Cris...

To be honest, the resource list for full installs is about all that is left for the Prelude v1.0 release... The installer has changed a bit to provide more resource install options... Finding a balance for full installs is proving to be a daunting task... I am also attempting to update snippets to use the newest Etomite technologies and practices...

I have been working on getting Prelude v1.0 ready for over a month straight and have pushed customer work to the back burner... Unfortunately, I have had to address several customer issues this week which has delayed the release a bit... We're close...

Oh, there will definitely be several authentication related snippets in the full install...

Absolutely. Well said.

Although not brown nosing, and having had only a glimpse of the frustrations professional coders must have with huge pieces of code, Etomite is amazing, and the time and effort that has gone into it is incredible. Thank you. I have said it before, but I hope you make millions (although that sort of isnt the point with open source).

If I ever get more than one number on the National Lottery a big chunk would head Etomites way.

However, that doesn't pay the bills now does it. (Billions of $ are written off every other day during this credit crunch. If only someone could write off a fraction more and pass it this way...)

Etomite deserves more recognition. (A pr of 7 is very impressive although Joomla is a 9!) But hey, who cares what google thinks :Praying:

Can't wait for the forthcoming 1.0!

Paul

PS There was some talk of changing etos name. Did any suggestions come up?

PPS It would be cool if 1.0 had a built in option checkbox for something like 'report back to etomite'. Eto could then have a live count of participating websites, even a live count of pages served! Imagine, eto serves a billion pages.
I don't know how it would work, but adservers do this kind of stuff all the time don't they?

PPPS Sorry, gone really offpoint, just wanted to agree with cris and say thanks too.

Thanks, Paul...

The name "Etomite" won't be changing - at least that's not the plan... What will be changing is the release name... The v1.0 release milestone marks the end of development for the Prelude code base. Parking the Prelude code base will allow development efforts to go where they were intended to go some two years ago...

When Dean and I took over the Etomite project back in March of 2005 (Yeah, we missed our 3rd anniversary, Dean) I established a release sequence... The first release was Prelude, which marked my taking over code base from Alex in preparation of things to come - hence the name... The next releases is slated to be named Cocoon... The release after that will be Metamorphosis, or Morph for short... I haven't heard of any conflicts with using the name Cocoon considering the fact that Apache has a project with the same name... If such a conflict arises, or if we decide it in the best overall interest, we will jump directly to Metamorphosis... I won't say what comes after that just yet...

Wow! I can't believe I missed that!

I was actually thinking of adding an installer that sends information back to us so we can just simply count the amount of sites.... I'll ask ralph

I just did the V1.1 Upgrade, WOW! Awsome, idiot-proof, clear and easy. LOVE the fact that I didn't have to deal with the config.inc.php (but I was a bit worried that doing the config.inc.php "upgrade" would overwrite my old connection info) but there was nothing to be worried about :) The whole thing literally took me just over 3 mins (including file upload - localhost). Great job!
