Hi!

I want to relaunch one of my websites, made with NetObjects Fusion a few years ago.

The only problem: The URLs are not logical named. I have to keep them because of google.

it looks like this:

http://www.Homepage....st_-_site_.html
http://www.Homepage....anders/usw.html
http://www.Homepage....es_und_das.html

How can I realize this with etomite.

Sorry for my english! I hope you understand my problem.

Thanks a lot.

Ich freue mich auch über Antworten auf Deutsch ;)

All URL's provided return a 404 error...

they are examples Ralph, not intended to work. But I think what Hurz is trying to say is that he wishes to use folders in his Friendly URL's. I'm not sure that's possible the way he wants it...

No, current releases of Etomite will not render folder based URL's... It has been tried but the functionality would require far too many modifications of the code base to attempt... It is on the wish list, however...

Having done research on Apache rewrite rules fairly recently, surely this can be achieved with some .htaccess mods.

Re-write an alias to include folders in the URL returned... More in my Etomite Blog post.

[EDIT] the destination page with anchor [/edit]

I´ve heard of this. I tryed it by myself a few Month ago to redirect "www.homepage.de/index.htm" to "www.homepage.de" because of doubling content.

Thats difficult. I can try it but I don't think I`ll look through.

Thank you all for your answers!

If someone has another idea, let me hear.

But there is another question. If I'll get it, where to put the files?

Ok for the startsite I know where to put it. But where for the "legal information" or for the "contact" and so on???

Dean, myself, and several other members have tried to get this working but have always ended up scrapping our efforts because whenever we think we have things working something creeps up as yet another problem... I have been reading up on the various techniques, on and off, over the past several weeks - yet again... If someone comes up with a way to do this without hacking the Etomite Manager and the parser, I'll be thrilled... I just don't see it happening...

Hmm ... ok .... sounds not good :(

And it doesen't work with mod rewite?

I'm stumped what to do now. I have to relaunch this site without changing the URL's.

Sorry for this question, but would it be possible with another CMS?

Weil dieses ganze Thema auf englisch ist werde ich doch auch auf englisch antworten.

How about this:

Create a folder http://www.Homepage....ordner1/Berlin/ and insert a file test_-_site_.html which is just a redirection to http://www.Homepage....test-seite.html
Do the same for the other folders/files.
Thus google and other human made bookmarks will find the "old" file and still see the correct content.

Also, if you put in a http503 or -305 error header (don't know for sure which one it is) google will know that http://www.Homepage....st_-_site_.html will be permanently replaced by http://www.Homepage....test-seite.html
Then after a couple of months you could erase all the "old" stuff.

Hi vw53a.

Thanks for this idea. Its the first practicable solution and I like it.

There is only one problem.

When I delete these files/folders after a couple of months all Links to these files/folders will be lost :(

Yeah, you'd have to rewrite the content to point to the new files to keep your server from redirecting half the time.

It's http response code 301 by the way. Check out HTTP/1.1: Status Code Definitions and 301 Redirect - How to create Redirects.

IMO, after a couple of months google will have indexed the new etomized pages. Check it out by searching google for just "site:Homepage.com" (without quotation marks). It 'll spit out all pages it has cached for that domain.
You'll receive less hits on the old pages as time goes by. After a while, just ask visitors of the old site to bookmark the new location.

Was heißt Unterseiten eigentlich auf Englisch? ^^

for English Readers:

The Problem is, that incoming Links - linking to the files/folders - will link into nothing, because I will delete these files/folders after a couple of months.

Ich würde Unterseiten "subpages" nennen.

You could ofcourse leave the old pages but change its content to something like:

Quote

*) Strikethrough what's not appropriate. If you'd like you could automatically redirect visitors after x seconds with a refresh metatag in the header.

Hmm ok. But its not only because of the visitors coming over these incoming links to the subpages.

It's because of the linkpower which will be lost. Links to get the subpages higher with special keywords.

I will check out how many links are set to these subpages. Perhaps I'll ask the website-owners to change them linking to the new subpages.

Thanks a lot!
