I wish I could go to a 'Functions' forum, goto the topic called 'getUserData' and see lots of Q&A's, example usage etc submitted by user comments, just like the function lists on php.net - which are almost perfect IMHO for php references.

(This is not for the eto-core wishlist but seems appropriate to be on a wish list.)

Paul.

I agree. That may be a great way to add user-contributed documentation for the API's.

So a forum called Functions, where you can submit topics would be OK?

Hi,

That would be ok, but would soon become a long list of strange enquiries. Instead a bit more like the snippett library, so the 'topics' are controlled and are the functions themselves. Then within each topic/function people can post.

So if I am stuck, say, on getUserData, I would go to the function board, scroll down to the topic getUserData, and read the comments, examples and questions of users. Like php.net (example ereg function page - that I seem to spend forever on!)

I think lots of people will find this very helpful.

Thank you.

Paul.

PS To keep it within normal invision board functionality, simply a new board called 'Etomite Functions' with sub-boards for each function would be a good start. Bit of a pain to set up, but a huge benefit (possibly) IMHO.

PPS I dont really have any idea how it would be done like php.net do it, but jquery do it really well too in a very similar way (which I have finally given up on after wasting about a month on that bloody bug filled load of junk! In comparison - Etomite Rocks!).

Give me a list of functions and I'll create the sub forums :)

These two would be a good start, otherwise just all the functions from the function list.

getUserData()
userLoggedIn()

This may need some thought actually. For instance, tons of unused sub forums would just look bad IMHO. Also, should adding an example usage, come up on 'view new posts'? Perhaps there should be a functions.etomite.org like the docs.etomite.org. I certainly dont mean it to be alot of work for anyone.

Perhaps just one new board at the moment called 'Functions for Development' or something similar. See how much it gets used or read. Then simply pin a post 'how to use' and say, if the function you are looking for is not listed as a topic, then add as a topic. Otherwise, post in relevant topic. For general non function specific stuff please use a different forum.'

Then if I want to put up something about getUserData(), I can start the topic on it.

Starting lots of boards would be a pain I would imagine.

Paul.

Thanks Mike

Now can I wish it was completely full with hundreds of great examples...? no...? sigh. It will either fill up or be deleted. Thank you though! I am really pleased with it!

Here it is - The new function forum - from Dean.

Thanks again,

Paul.
