Hi,

I installed xinha into the media folder. Then in the editor settings, I selected the editor as Xinha. But when i actually go to any document for editing, no Editor loads up. I just get some Html type tags..

Please forgive my non stop questions. Newbie. :(
Thanks a lot for all the help.

I think this issues has been covered previously and possibly within the last couple of weeks... Try doing a Site Search for "Xinha" or a similar phrase...

Questions are to be expected... Just make sure you do adequate searches before creating a new thread... No need making the forums any more unwieldy than they already are...

Hi Ralph,

No solution yet.. :(

I actually did that. I went through the forum. I found the exact same issue been asked by several members inside other topics even. But no specific answer or solution has been displayed there. I tried everything thats been mentioned there. but my Editor does not load.

I have a Windows XP Box.
My PHP is 5.x.x (5.1.3 i think)
Xinha was donwloaded from our etomite site; the latest one that is displayed there.
Etomite too is the latest available in our website. 1.1

I have copied xinha folder into manager/media/. After this, in the config tab, I selected editor as Xinha and then it threw up many options. I enabled most of the Xinha options. And Saved the configuration. But now when i click on a document I had created for testing with just one line of text. It just displays
<p>my text for testing</p>

If you require any more info please let me know. But it will take me another 11 hours before i can get my hands on my personal laptop as I am now in office.

If you enabled "most of" the Xinha options prior to trying the editor first, that might be your problem... Some of the plug-in's conflict with each other causing the editor to not load... Try disabling all plug-in's and see if the editor will load properly...

Also, not sure if you ran across it in your reading but if you are having problems with the zip download, try downloading the tar.gz download, extract, and upload that file set... It's been known to resolve similar problems... You should only need to try this if the previous suggestion doesn't work...

Hi Vineesh,

You have enabled the editor in the etomite configuration I presume?

Just a thought,

Paul,

EDIT

Then in the editor settings, I selected the editor as Xinha.

How stupid am I? Just ignore me - sorry!

Hi Vineesh,

It sounds (since you are working offline - from a different post) that you are having complications with an XXAMPy like 'pretendy' webserver.

Get some host space, upload etomite, run install, follow instructions and I would bet everything is fine.

There are some sponsors on the home page advertising some excellent hosting packages! (They have nothing to do with me by the way so this is not an advert!)

The file manager settings are the server path for your site, on a live one, something like /sites/mydomain/public_html/ which you do have to set manually sometimes, although on my sites it has always populated itself accurately.

I dont think I ever used the file manager locally? Why would you? It is local after all.

Anyway, I hope this helps,

Paul.

PS When it comes to this stuff Ralph and Cris are years and years in advance of me, so given the choice, I would listen to them! I will leave you to it now. Good luck!

Actually, I had just installed WampServer Version 2.0 on one of my XP boxes earlier in the week and have been able to do some local testing of my own... What I found was that not only does configuration take a bit more work to get right due to how Etomite can't accurately calculate some of the paths under Windows but there are other issues as well...

WampServer Version 2.0 uses Apache 2.2.11, PHP 5.2.8, MySQL 5.1.30, and phpMyAdmin 3.1.1, for anyone interested... Due to the newer release of PHP, Xinha's ImageManager plugin throws an error because PHP's error_reporting(E_NONE) function no longer recognizes the deprecated E_NONE setting which must be replaced with error_reporting(0) instead... It took some work but I now have a working copy of Xinha on this machine although I haven't tried more than one or two other plugins...

I have been communicating with Vineesh via PM's today and he should be able to report back tomorrow regarding his local install... I also mentioned to him that he could use a dynamic IP service like DTDNS if he wants to be able to have worldwide access to his local server... He does have Linux based hosting lined up... Somwtimes it's just as easy to work on a live server than to work locally and migrate later on... It's all part of the learning curve I guess...

Disaster struck me Ralph, My PC is in the service centre. the motherboard has passed away and it will take a week or so for repair. So I cant do anything until that happens..

In office I cannot connect to the admin interface of my hosting site, if i have to try to work from here.. Because port 443 is blocked.

Light at the end of the tunnel!!

My lappy is coming back today/tomorrow.

I will be moving the eto installer online and working there. I got my internet connection converted to flat rate for that. Hopefully things will go fine..

You can know exactly how good etomite is for a newbie. :)

Ralph... am having same problem.

But... the tar.gz file download is NOT an option at the downloads page... am I looking in the wrong place? I know that if I get the file from the Xinha site itself, it would not be configured for Etomite as you guys have worked on...

So, what now?

Hey.. R u workin on Windows on an offline development site? I assume yes.. Best thing i would suggest is for you to try and upload etomite with xinha on to ur site online if u have a fixed fee internet connection. That would work well. Am gonna try the same today adn will let you know if tat also throws up errors.

By the way, I assumed he is not askin to download the tar version of Xinha but of Etomite.

Ralph has mentioned in a later post that he has made some changes to his xinha install to get it to work under windoze with PHP 5.2.8

Bobbi Jo, if this is you, perhaps you will have to either make the changes to the xinha code or wait for someone to post a windoze version with the changes made. Anyway you slice it, it sounds messy.

I'll see if I can get a new Xinha package bundled in both .zip and .tar.gz so Dean can get them linked in the Downloads section... Might be a day or three but we'll get to it...

Vineesh--No...I am most certainly not trying to use Etomite in a localized fashion and do not use Windows O/S on my server. I'm using a CentOS (Linux) on Apache. Never tried to do Eto on Windows, never will.

Cris--I'm not an Eto developer so making changes to the Xinha code is out of the question. I am producing websites which are production stage and need to be working, so to have Xinha not work is frustrating for me!

So has your server recently upgraded to PHP 5.2.8 when it stopped working? If so I could have a look at it and try and implement Ralph's error_reporting(0) patch for you- if that is the problem.

Hi Cris

Thanks. But no, it's not applicable. I maintain my own server. I haven't upgraded to any later versions of PHP. Just using some version of 5.0.

Do the patch... It surely can't hurt...

Here is the patched manager/media/xinha/plugins/ImageManager/config.inc.php file...
