Why can't we edit our own posts in the forum?
Maybe I am missing something here. But, if not - its a dumb idea. In fact, its ridiculous. I have never been to a forum where I couldn't make changes to my own posts if I needed to. Without the ability to edit, we are forced to make a new post, fix grammar, clarify a thought - well, this ought to be obvious.
If this forum doesn't have this feature, maybe move to a better one, like SMF or PHBB.

Can't edit posts?

I believe that this is a new security feature implemented by Dean in an effor to thwart recent site attacks... As I recall, edit capabilities will kick in once you have made enough posts... If you are, in fact, a legitimate member then perhaps Dean can accelerate your transition to being able to edit posts... You can read part of WHY this was implemented HERE... It's an unfortunate sign of the times...

and I'm not an admin, but have been around for a while and can edit.
I'm on other forums that used to allow edits to your posts and now don't, because of the behaviour of a minority who would abuse the capability (eg posting something to stir up an argument, and then once the argument has been started going back to make their posts innocuous)
Dean and Ralph manage these forums very effectively - avoiding problems up front is better than trying to fix issues later!
