Just a heads up to everyone that some time over the next week(s) there'll be a period of downtime as I reshuffle a few things around in anticipation for IPB3 (and other changes).

The stage I am at is emboldened.

The Plan:
  • Configure new server.
    • Install cPanel.
    • Install CSF & Secure Server.
    • Update Apache/PHP.
    • Setup Nameserver(s).
    • General Configurations.
  • Get a new documentation team together.
  • Setup Repository.
    • Setup SVN.
    • Setup Trac/Wiki.
    • Enter the existing CodeBase. Ralph
    • Merge existing bugtracker into Trac.
    • Secure Wiki with Authentication/User Groups (Read only public access).
    • Merge existing documentation into Wiki.
  • Transfer Etomite mainsite to new server.
    • Setup Hosting Account.
    • Transfer existing site into new hosting account.
    • Upgrade Etomite to 1.1/1.2.
  • Transfer Etomite Forums to new server.
    • Setup Hosting Account.
    • Transfer existing site into new hosting account.
    • Upgrade IP.Board.
    • Upgrade IP.Blog.
    • Upgrade IP.Downloads.
  • Transfer EtomiteLive to new server.
    • Setup Hosting Account.
    • Transfer existing site into new hosting account.
    • Upgrade IP.Board.
    • Upgrade IP.Downloads.
  • Transfer Etomite Passport to new server.
    • Setup Hosting Account.
    • Transfer existing site into new hosting account.
    • Upgrade IP.Converge. Awaiting Release
  • Transfer EtomiteBlog to new server.
    • Setup Hosting Account.
    • Transfer existing site into new hosting account.

Things *may* get done in a different order; it depends on my migranes and concentration span..

THE AFTERMATH OF LAST NIGHT

Well last night was chaos.... those that tried to log on last night will have had difficulty.

The company I have the new Etomite server with was hacked... major style. The company had 200+ Servers hacked (with 2000 VPS servers on). The downside of this is that it looks like I've lost everything I'd done up till now on my list... not best pleased as I hadn't setup the backup plan yet :( :( :(

Why the problems logging on last night? The authentication that the forum uses was located on that server... so at the moment it's running on a local copy that I'll need to resync or duplicate if the server comes back online...

Oh well, a long night ahead.

That really sucks, Dean... There's been a wave of attacks happening and I think a lot of people, including major ISP's, were caught by surprise... Perhaps with China trying to crack down on certain types of sites, aside from porn hosting, some of this crap will start to subside...

Your continued diligence should never be overlooked by any active member of this community... You do your darndest to keep us up and running, regardless of what new hinderance gets tossed our way... I congratulate you on your preserverance... Some would wait it out until the storm is over but you go above and beyond...

Keep us posted on your progress... We'll have to talk about some of those messages once things have calmed...

Thanks again...

I know how you feel Dean!

A lot of my stuff was hosted with Vaserv as well. Thankfully I didn't loose anything!

I've been with them for a while now - even though this has happened I still think they are an excellent host.

Well the moment I got my data back (that I can't really use anyway as it's easier to restart at this moment than it is to put it all back in place over the top), I ran for the hills.

I found VA's support staff to be pretty useless if you needed anything past a copy-and-paste of a reply they'd already got written. The good staff were busy trying to get things back online, the bad staff replying to tickets with irrelevant replies.
I opened a ticket to ask for a new server - 24 hrs later, no reply. I asked if it'd be the day after, and they then put me to the end of the queue for new servers... I waited a few hours, spoke to a member of staff via IRC then closed the ticket (and my account).

I won't be going back there... I have no confidence in the company or the product (just look at all the complaints in regards to the new servers).
