Hi everyone,

Just thought I would share this as it works so well and I was very impressed with it.

Install easyphp
To develop with Etomite locally on your own machine download and install easyphp from http://www.easyphp.org/
(If you run easy php, by double clicking the Easyphp icon in the system tray you get a little window open up which tells you with a traffic light system if apache and mysql are running or not. Make sure they are both running.)

Put eto files into www folder
Go to program files and find the easy php folder, within which is a folder called www which is where you put your files you would normally upload to the web server. Copy the etomite download into this folder (I usually put it into a subfolder so I can run lots of versions for different websites I am working on) and follow normal etomite setup instructions (renaming a file or two, checking permissions etc.)

Create a database using phpmyadmin module
If you go to 127.0.0.1/home you will call up the local easyphp admin page where you can install different modules etc (described in detail on easyphp.org website.) You can add a new database by opening phpadmin from the list of modules.

Open any browser but instead of using 'localhost' use 127.0.0.1/your-sub-folder/install/ and the normal etomite install screen will appear where you can proceed as normal.

When you get the hang of it, it only takes 5mins at most to set up.

The only issue I encountered was nothing to do with etomite or easyphp but I will mention it here. I was unable to rename ht.access to .htaccess which friendly urls need, as windows would not allow it. To do it, I had to download NoteTab lite (you can google for it) which is a notepad alternative (which I do not use normally, I normally use Notepad ++ which is superb!), but it lets you save the ht.access file as a .htaccess although once created in the right folder windows will not display it in the file folder, but it is there. Once done though the friendly urls worked perfectly.

Now you can run etomite locally, as well as editing any files (assets and css) directly from the www folder.

As a bonus, it can all be installed on a memory stick, which has been very handy for showing customers development in progress, without having to make the development site available online.

Hope someone finds that helpful.

I did use winampp (from memory) but it was not as easy as the appropriately named easyphp.

Best wishes,

Paul.

PS I have nothing to do with easyphp, this is not a spammy promotion, just found it ideal for a quick easy solution for using etomite locally and offline.

PPS It is also really handy for tinkering with eto itself, if you ever do or use any eto mods.

Thanks for sharing.

I started to use a debian virtual machine that act a web server with bridged networking.
Handy if you are more than one working or you plan to do "dangerous" test.
